Abstract Butterfly series 2020
The subject of the butterfly is an obvious spectacular beauty containing obscure delightful shapes, the interweaving interplay of organic lines, plus a combination of saturated or subdued colours. In this series of paintings I've captured a few recognizable butterfly species, while also incorporating the visual elements of light rings and sonic circles I often paint in other series.
The patterns, shapes and colours inherent to the many butterfly species are of constant fascination for me as a painter. I paint them with expressive colour and broad marks, applying wild buttery brush strokes to convey the seductive qualities of these aesthetic creatures floating on the wind. I also like to play with the patterns ghosted on a landscape horizon, blending with the clouds.
