Title: Orwellian Order
Medium: Oil on Canvas.
When the global shock of the Covid19 pandemic hit home, it was the forced isolation to my usual state of existence as a studio-bound practice that kickstarted this series of still lives. Although it's safe to say that nothing has changed for me directly, the reflective nature of this crisis seemed to bring all our attention to some very ordinary consumer products, such as toilet paper, tissues, panadol etc. I found myself compelled to paint them, to 'isolate the ordinary' as a way to record this very unique experience in human history.
Each item has been treated with a deliberately quiet, subdued almost monochromatic tonal palette, to emphasize the ordinary nature of the products.
